The little (special) original 14 inch BBS wheels could not wear tyres to supply lots of grip in the wet, so the Turbo now has the 16s off the wreck.
(also looks HOT)

and here's the wreck - both shots at the insurance assessment centre.
2nd one shows the V6 as well.

I still really love the look of Fuegos, having studied them intimately during a couple of repaints.
I know they're only a eurohatch but what I see is an exotic shape.
Does anyone agree or am I just barmy?

They are very eurohatch in styling but have a very unique look that has IMHO stood the test of time and even today can hold it's own with modern road cars in terms of looking good on the road.
Some of the O/S models are even better, I have a pic of a US GTA coupe which was based on the Fuego, it doesn't have the waist high black trim and looks like a completely different car but still great. Smile Very Happy

They really are a great looking car-lines are well balanced and they have that
flair that I think only French and Italian designers manage to do. Even though cars are really designed by accountants who have no feelings they seem to still maintain a certain "feeling" or love of cars.

They look so exotic from behind I think. Its really apparent that the design reflects the dynamic need to have the rear track less than the front (combat understeer) yet still manages to look svelte in doing so.
This is a shape which looks nice from all angles, and also allows the neccessity of conforming to the pure demands of engineering dynamics.

Robert Opron penned the shape.
He also shaped the panels of the Citroen SM. I have perhaps unkindly suggested in the past that it was a damned good thing he got that out of his mind before moving on to the Fuego. Maybe I was too harsh, as the SM now looks to me like something very special (and as a car it always was of course).

Some cars just have that timeless appeal and other grow on you. The Citroen SM now has more "magic" about it than when it came out as there are so many bland cars of all sizes from little hatches to limos.
Possibly my favourites are the 105 series Alfa Romeos , the original E-Type Jag, the original Audi Quattro and of course the Fuego.

Light 15s look good and Renault 12s and 16s now look so good against computer generated designs. IMO

------------ Very Happy

Just looking at the SM on Wikipedia and they say:

Quote:
Components of the SM lived on - in the Maserati Merak (engine, transmission) and the Lotus Esprit (transmission (both mirror image)

Which implies that these 3 cars all used a Renault transmission (since the Esprit used the Renault 25 style transmission).

Don't know if that's right for sure.....but interesting!

By the way, and as an aside to this, we saw an old Top Gear recently and Clarkson talked about how bad the Renault transmission was in the wonderful (and English of course) Lotus Esprit.
He refers to the gearchange quality, and pans the Renault bit because of that.
What he doesn't care to recall is that he quite liked the gearchange in both the Alpine GTA and the MVS Venturi which use the same box. These cars were contemporaries of the Lotus at one stage. Also, comparisons at the time always showed disappointment in the Lotus change, mainly because the Renault Alpine was so pleasant.

Another reason to kick Clarkson in the bum if you see him. haha Smile

Thoroughbred and Classic mag just did a feature on Esprit.
Only negative on box was 1st was not easy when cold, which they said is normal for box. Many don't realise that they warm up their engine to correct temp and don't have a thought for transmissions, wheel bearings etc etc.

Features for it was Renault transmission which replaced original Citroen tranny.
I saw Jeremy's comment as well- he doesn't like French cars Very Happy

The 16" wheels look great - how did you get them to fit within the guards especially the rear or did you just use lower profile tyres (size?). Might consider the same move to replace the 14" BBS wheels on my Fuego Turbo.

Did not think you could post pics on renaultinaus?

There are kind of half-shell shaped covers over the seat belt bolts on the inner arches which you need to remove on the rear.
You'll see these when you have the wheels off.

On both cars we've had the 16x7s on, we added spacers on the rears - can't recall exactly what thickness but about 1 cm. Don't use this as the figure and quote me, but I think its about what you need.
Amy's car has had problems because of the lowered rear springs, and maybe some unorthodox rear camber angles but largely overcome by a bit of percussive therapy to inner arches.

And to post pics, its not hard if I can do it haha.

I'll update the procedure cos its even easier now - here's the link -

http://photobucket.com/

Then register like you'd with a forum.
When you've got the neccessary confirmation email you can then do like a forum and log on, select image files from your computer and upload them.
Once they're on your photobucket files, keep that open and go to your forum which is already open on internet explorer and click the 'img' button above in your posting page.
An asterix will appear in that button.
Then change to Photobucket and hover over the image you want to select and then the dropdown that appears will have IMG Code. LEFT click on that and it will say 'Copied'.
Go back to the forum page and after it says img in square brackets RIGHT click and PASTE and the string from Photobucket will appear.
Then you must click the img button above again to make the asterix disappear and post the pic to the forum.

Like so and good luck
